STANFORD, Calif. - Golf can be quite a fickle game and Saturday afternoon the Santa Clara women's golf team found that out first-hand. The Broncos battled bad luck and tough lies at the Peg Barnard California Collegiate at the Stanford Golf Course to finish 15th in the tournament.

"We had a very disappointing day today, unfortunately," said head coach Polly Schulze. "We had an opportunity to place real well in a field of top-50 teams, but those teams got it done today and we didn't. But we are going to draw from day one and go into the conference championships with a positive mindset."

The Broncos will shelve Saturday's final round as an anomaly and instead choose to focus on the approaching WCC Championships, set to be played April 17-18 in Copperopolis, Calif.

Saturday, Megan Stoddart led the Bronco quintet with a final round of 79 to finish the tournament with a score of 146. Candice Palmer carded an 80, Jenny Nelson and Hilaire Fouts each shot an 84 while Samantha Trask rounded out the group with an 82.

USC held off surges by second-place Cal and third-place Stanford to win the team title with a team score of 588, defeating the Golden Bears by two and the Cardinal by four. Irene Cho of the Women of Troy captured the individual title with a two-round score of 137, besting San Francisco's Jessica Potter by six strokes.
