STANFORD, Calif. - The Santa Clara University men's golf team is currently in 17th place after two rounds of action today to open the 2004 U.S. Intercollegiate, presented by the Maple Fund and hosted by Stanford University. The two-day event is being hosted at the Stanford Golf Course, a par-71 layout playing 6,786 yards. Santa Clara navigated the course today in 615 strokes, with rounds of 307 and 308. The team is led by sophomore Jong Yoon, who is currently tied for 51st with 73-77--150. Seniors Jonathan Edwards (78-77), Matt Klenz (77-78) and John Colyar (79-76) are all tied for 82nd place after carding 1552. Senior Chris DeMartini rounds out the Bronco scorecards with an 82-82--164, good for 92nd place. USC leads the team competition with a 562, two strokes over par and 10 strokes ahead of Fresno State. UCLA and San Diego State are in third and fourth, respectively, and Oregon and San Jose State are tied for fifth with 584s. The Trojans' Bradley Shaw (69-67) leads the individual competition with a four-under 136, just one stroke ahead of San Diego State's Aaron Choi (67-70). Only six golfers carded rounds at or below par. The final round of the U.S. Intercollegiate will begin at 8 a.m. on Sunday with a shotgun start.
