Two Second-Half Goals Stop Spiders

Nov. 4, 2007

Box Score

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Richmond men's soccer team gave up two second half goals in a 2-0 loss to Duquesne on Sunday afternoon.

The two teams played through a scoreless first half, but Duquesne broke the tie three minutes into the second half when Travis Mackenzie converted a nice one-touch goal from about six yards out.

The Spiders remained within 1-0 until the 78th minute when Bryan Matthews scored on a breakaway, chipping the ball over Richmond senior goalkeeper Eric Sciocchetti.

"In the first half, I thought we were pretty good, we did some good things," Richmond head coach Jeff Gettler said. "Duquesne came out pretty fired up and we met their level. We created a couple of things and played pretty well, but we didn't really get behind them."

Richmond wraps-up the regular season with two home games next weekend. The Spiders host La Salle on Friday night at 7 p.m. and Fordham on Sunday at 1 p.m. at First Market Stadium.
