WomenĄŻs Tennis earns first Big Ten win against Ohio State, 4-3

University Park, Pa., April 10, 2005 ¨C After losing the doubles point to conference foe Ohio State, the Penn State WomenĄŻs Tennis team was able to come back and take the match, 4-3. The Nittany Lions improve to 6-9 this season, 1-5 in the Big Ten.

The Buckeyes took the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles matches. However, at No. 2 sophomore Sasha Abraham (Hyderabad, India) and freshman Jenny Schular (Peachtree City, Georgia) defeated Sonia Ruzimovsky and Kristin Messmer, 8-4.

In singles action, senior Maaria Husain (Marion, Ohio) was back after sitting out last match. After dropping the first set 2-6, she was able to take the next two 7-5, 6-3, over Emily DeCamilla.

Sophomore Andreea Niculescu (Montreal, Quebec) defeated Meredith Vincent in two straight sets, 6-1, 6-4. The talented sophomore, who was playing at No. 4 singles, has a 11-4 record this duals season. After three straight singles losses, skilled freshman Jenny Schular earned a victory against Lindsay Bryan, 6-2, 6-1. She improves her duals record to 11-3 this season.

The Penn State WomenĄŻs Tennis team will hit the road next Friday, April 15 and Sunday, April 17 to face Iowa and Minnesota.
