Katie Anderson and Andy Latowski To Receive McCoy Awards on Sunday

STATE COLLEGE, Pa.; April 11, 2002 -- Seniors Katie Anderson (Somerset, N.J.) and Andy Latowski (Pittsburgh, Pa.) have been selected the 2002 Ernest B. McCoy Memorial Award winners. In addition, Anderson is one of five University-wide recipients of the John W. Oswald Award.

The two student-athletes will be recognized during the University's annual Student Awards Ceremony on Sunday, April 14, at the Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel. The event begins at 1:30 p.m.

The McCoy Award is presented annually to one senior male and one senior female student-athlete who have combined successful athletic participation with academic excellence. The award is named for Ernest B. McCoy, who was Penn State's Athletic Director and Dean of the College of Physical Education from 1952-70. His name adorns the Penn State natatorium.

The Oswald Award is named for Penn State's 13th president (1970 to 1983), and awarded to graduating seniors who have provided outstanding leadership in at least one of several activities at the University.

Anderson was a member of the women's swimming and diving team and will graduate this year with a 3.90 grade point average in American Studies. A three-time All-American at the 2001 NCAA Championships and a 2000 U.S. Olympic Trials qualifier, Anderson is also a four-time Academic All-American and a three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree.

Latowski is a member of the men's golf team and will graduate this year with a 3.69 grade point average in Marketing. The team leader all season for Penn State, Latowski sports the team's top overall stroke average with a 73.29 per round mark. He has been the team's top finisher in each of its events this season, including a seventh place finish at the James Madison Invitational in September. Latowski won last year's Rutherford Intercollegiate as well as the Princeton Invitational and was a GCAA All-American Scholar in 2001. He was also a Verizon Academic All-District pick in 2001 as well as an All-District II selection.
