STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - The No. 18 ranked Penn State women's swimming team (7-3) beat Rutgers (6-2) 133-103 to win their third straight meet. O'Brien won the 1-meter with a total of 257.55, which was a NCAA zone qualifying mark, while Pagnotta won the 3-meter springboard in a NCAA score of 285.37. Two Penn State swimmers earned NCAA consideration times. Big Ten Swimmer of the Week Erin Mulshenock (Fr. New Castle, Del.) swam a provisional time and a Penn State season best in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:01.68. Kate Bruzda (Jr. Latrobe, Pa.) swam a season best and a NCAA time in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:02.22. The 400-yard medley relay team of Susan Janoski (Exeter, Pa.) Courtney Stanchck (Bloomsburg, Pa.), Meredith Holman (Inman, S.C.) and Mulshenock started the meet off on the right note by winning in a time of 3:51.32. The Nittany Lions won eight of the 13 contested events and placed one-two in five of those events. In the events they did not win they finished two-three twice. Quotes: Penn State Head Coach Bill Dorenkott: Impressions of the meet ? It was a solid day of racing and a good opportunity to gauge progress. We were able to see what we need to tune-up for the post-season. On Senior Day ? It was hard because the number seniors we have is rarely unheard of in our sport due the amount of work the sport requires. There is a lot of attrition. They have given us the beginning of an outstanding tradition. They are the types of people you like to be around on a daily basis. They're special people. --LIONS--
