UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; July 20, 2006 - Recent Penn State graduate Tiffany Weimer and current redshirt-sophomore Sheree Gray (Toms River, N.J.) have been fixtures in the starting line-up through the first two games for the U.S. Under-21 women's soccer team at the 2006 Nordic Cup. The United States has recorded a win and a tie thus far in competition, and must beat Norway on July 20 to advance and be eligible for a berth in the 2006 Nordic Cup title game.

In the Americans' opener on July 16, Weimer recorded the assist on India Trotter's game-winning goal in the 3-0 win over Denmark. She launched a corner kick to her teammate to grab the U.S. team's first goal of the tournament.

In the second match on July 18, the U.S. tied Iceland 1-1. Both teams took penalty kicks, which also serve as tiebreakers at the end of the tournament. Nittany Lion midfielder Gray converted on her penalty kick, helping the U.S. team gain the advantage over Iceland, 3-2.

The championship game will take place on July 22. The tie vs. Iceland was the first tie for the USA in a Nordic Cup match since 2003, when the USA drew with Norway, 1-1, but that result was good enough to send the Americans to the title game, where they defeated Sweden, 2-1.

The USA has won an unprecedented seven straight Nordic Cup tournaments and eight out of the last nine.
