No. 10 Penn State Women¡¯s Lacrosse Outlasts No. 11 Johns Hopkins, 9-8

Baltimore, Md., April 30, 2005 - The 10th-ranked Penn State women¡¯s lacrosse team outlasted No. 11 Johns Hopkins, 9-8, Saturday afternoon in Baltimore. The Nittany Lions improve to 11-4 and 5-1 in the American Lacrosse Conference while the Blue Jays fall to 10-5 and 3-3 in the ALC.

Junior Lori Havrilla (Devon, Pa.) led the Lions with four goals as senior Kristen Burke (Severna Park, Md.) and sophomore Lindsay Dutch (Ellicott City, Md.) each posted two goals and senior Emily Chambers (Valley Cottage, N.Y.) added one. Junior Shari Maslin led the squad with two assists as Burke and Havrilla posted one each.

Senior goalkeeper Lee Tortorelli (Havertown, Pa.) recorded three saves and allowed eight goals, facing 20 shots through 60 minutes in the contest. Tortorelli, senior Kate Townsend (Collingswood, N.J.) and senior Sara Ward (West Chester, Pa.) each posted three ground balls and Maslin led the squad with three draw controls. Sophomore Renee Cipro recorded two caused turnovers to lead the team.

As a team, Penn State recorded 18 ground balls to Johns Hopkins¡¯ 12 and won the draw control battle, 10-9. The Nittany Lions connected on one of their four free position shots as the Blue Jays were successful on one of their two.

Penn State returns home for its final regular-season home game at Jeffrey Field on Saturday, May 7 against Delaware at noon in a contest that will also be Senior Day.
