No. 3 Men's Volleyball Defeats NYU, 3-0

New York, N.Y., March 26, 2005 - Twelve different players recorded at least one kill in Penn State's three-game win over NYU Saturday night, 30-16, 30-24, 30-23. The Nittany Lions improve to 21-3 and 7-0 in the EIVA while the Violets fall to 5-11, 1-8 in the conference.

Sophomore Alex Gutor (State College, Pa.) led Penn State with nine kills in two games while junior Nate Meerstein (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and sophomore Kyle Masterson (South Barrington, Ill.) each recorded six kills. Sophomore Aaron Smith (Richmond, Va.) chipped in five kills, senior Keith Kowal (Reading, Pa.) and junior Matt Proper (Guys Mills, Pa.) each posted three and juniors Dan O'Dell (Rochester, N.Y.) and Andrew Price (Laytonsville, Md.) recorded two apiece. As a team, Penn State attacked at a .391 clip while holding the Violets to a -.012 hitting percentage.

O'Dell and freshman Luke Murray (East Petersburg, Pa.) split time at the setting position, with O'Dell dishing out 17 assists and Murray providing 13. Freshman libero Gary Vogel (Lancaster, Pa.) led the squad with six digs as Smith, Masterson and redshirt freshman Guillermo Fernandez (San Juan, Puerto Rico) all recorded three digs.

Penn State outblocked NYU 15.0 to 6.0, led by Meerstein with six stuffs, Masterson with five and Proper, Price, Gutor and junior Kevin Wentzel (Pittsburgh, Pa.) all recording three.

The Nittany Lions remain on the road, taking on Princeton on Sunday at 4:00 p.m.
