Penn State Soccer Player Selected to British Universities Team

STATE COLLEGE, PA., July 24, 2001-- Penn State men's soccer player Ben Dawson (Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England) has been selected to the British Universities soccer team to play in the World University Games, held in Beijing, China, August 21-September 1.

Dawson, a junior, will depart August 9 for two weeks of preparation at the Hong Kong Sports Institute. The week-long tournament, beginning August 21, will be held at the Beijing Workers Stadium and will feature sell-out group games against China, Mexico and Nigeria. Finals of the tournament will be September 1.

In 2000, Dawson started every game for the Nittany Lion defense and was fourth on the team in scoring with 10 points. He earned second team All-Big Ten honors and was selected to the Penn State Nike Classic All-Tournament team.
