Greg Gurenlian Earns ECAC Defensive Player of the Week Honors

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa., April 13, 2005 - For the second time this season junior midfielder Greg Gurenlian (Springfield, Pa.) has been named Eastern College Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week in a vote by league officials recently. He earned the honor for his performance against Hobart and Mt. Saint Mary's.

Last Saturday, Gurenlian collected 13 ground balls, won 21-32 face-offs and tallied one assist in the 19-13 Penn State victory over Hobart. On Tuesday, April 5 he picked up 11 ground balls, went 16-21 in the face-off circle and finished with one assist against Mt. Saint Mary's. Gurenlian currently leads the ECAC with 75 ground balls for an 8.33 ground balls per game average. He is also third in the conference with a .648 face-off percentage, winning 118 face-offs on 182 attempts.

Penn State (4-5, 2-1) will host St. John's in a conference match on Saturday, April 16 at 1:00 p.m. The Nittany Lions will then travel to Lewisburg, Pa. three days later to battle Bucknell at 7:30 p.m.
