STATE COLLEGE, Pa., July 2, 2003 -- A limited number of season tickets remain for Penn State students for the 2003 Nittany Lion football campaign. Students received information after the Spring semester on purchasing season football tickets on-line via their University e-mail address. The Nittany Lions will play seven home games this fall, with visits by four teams that won their bowl games last season: Ohio State, Wisconsin, Minnesota and old rival Boston College. The athletic ticket office is using the on-line system for the first time, phasing out paper ticket applications, and has been pleased with the response by the students and the simplicity of the on-line system. Students also can purchase men's and women's basketball tickets for the 2003-04 season when they purchase football tickets. All returning students who were registered for at least 12 credits in the 2003 Spring semester, are registered for at least 12 credits for the 2003 Fall semester, and have an email address listed with the University, have received an email advising them that they may pay for student football tickets on-line with a credit card. Students will need to log onto the web address provided and use their student ID number and the PIN number that will be included in the email. A copy of the application will be attached to the email for students not wishing to utilize the on-line method. Students will no longer receive a paper application at their postal address. All incoming freshmen will receive a paper application, mailed to their home address provided that they were a paid accept by May 1, 2003. tudents that did not receive an application, but will be registered for a minimum of 12 credits in the Fall, can download an application by visiting www.GoPSUsports.com and clicking on the 'Tickets' link. Student football tickets are $145 for seven home games. Coach Joe Paterno's squad will play five of its first six games at home. The Nittany Lions open the season vs. Temple (August 30, 3:30 p.m.) and Boston College (September 6, 12:00 p.m.) and host Kent State (Sept. 20) to close the non-conference slate. Penn State plays its first two Big Ten contests in Beaver Stadium, hosting Minnesota (Sept. 27) and Wisconsin for Homecoming on October 4 (12:00 p.m.). Penn State welcomes Ohio State on November 1 and closes the home slate vs. Indiana on Nov. 15. Orders are being processed on a first-come, first-served basis and students are encouraged to respond as early as possible. Student season football tickets sell out each year. Men's ($50) and women's ($10) basketball student season tickets also are available when purchasing season football tickets. New Nittany Lion basketball coach Ed DeChellis brings his fast paced, exciting style of play back to Penn State after taking East Tennessee State University from the bottom of the Southern Conference standings to three consecutive league North division titles. The Bucs won the 2003 Southern Conference Championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. ETSU ranked fourth in the nation in scoring last season, averaging 82.0 points per game. Men's basketball student season tickets are $50. Lady Lion basketball coach Rene Portland returns her entire squad and welcomes four highly acclaimed recruits for the 2003-04 campaign. Led by two-time All-American Kelly Mazzante, Penn State won the Big Ten Championship and advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 for the second consecutive season in 2002-03, earning a 26-9 record. The Lady Lions have announced that Texas, Louisiana Tech, LSU, Baylor and Pittsburgh are among the non-conference opponents during their blockbuster 2003-04 home schedule.
