State College, Pa. - February 11, 2002 - Both Penn State's basketball teams will host two Big Ten games this week as the Nittany Lions host Iowa and Northwestern and the Lady Lions will close out their home slate vs. Michigan State and Illinois. Tickets remain for each contest.
Coach Jerry Dunn's young Nittany Lion squad looks to bounce back from a tough 65-58 loss at Michigan on Saturday. The Lions come in with a 6-16 overall mark, 2-9 in Big Ten play. Penn State is being led by Sophomore Sharif Chambliss (Racine, Wisc.), who sports a 14.6 ppg mark and leads the Big Ten in three-pointers per game (3.50) and free throw percentage (.898). The Lions entertain Iowa on Wednesday night in an 8 p.m. tilt. The game is a Hoops Valley Value Night in which fans can purchase four or more tickets for just $5 each. The first 1,000 fans will receive a free tape measure courtesy of Super 8 Motel and the first 1,000 kids will receive an autographed color action photo from women's soccer player Christie Welsh. Penn State will then host Northwestern on Saturday at 4 p.m. The game will also be an ESPN2 national broadcast. The first 1,000 fans will receive a Pocket Coolie courtesy of the Days Inn. Fans could also win a DVD Player courtesy of Mike's Music and Movies. Movie rentals will also be given away at the game. The day has also been tabbed as men's basketball Alumni Day with the annual Alumni Game starting at 12:30 p.m. Coach Rene Portland's Lady Lions are coming off a 96-81 home loss to Iowa on Sunday. The Lady Lions enter the week with a 16-9 overall mark and an 8-4 Big Ten record. Penn State sits in third place in the conference standings. Sophomore Kelly Mazzante (Montoursville, Pa.) leads Penn State with a 25.3 ppg average, which is also tops in the entire country. Penn State will host Michigan State on Thursday night, Valentines Day, at 7 p.m. The game is a Kids Night Out, allowing any parent and any child 14 and under to purchase two tickets, two hot dogs and two sodas for only $10. The first 500 couples to enter the game will receive a carnation courtesy of Flowers From Woodrings. Listen to 3WZ FM (95.3) for a chance to win a romantic candlelight dinner for two with limo service, a private waiter and your own private luxury box. The Lady Lions then battle Illinois on Sunday at 1 p.m. in the team's final home date. The first 1,000 students at the game will receive a Kelly Mazzante style tee-shirt courtesy of Nittany Bank and the Student Book Store while the first 1,000 kids 18 and under will receive a Kelly Mazzante action card courtesy of McLanahan's. The first 1,000 adults will receive a certificate redeemable for a free Nittany Lion Bobble Head Doll courtesy of AT&T Wireless. Mike's Movies and Music will once again give fans a chance to win a free DVD Player as well as free movie rentals.
