Ames, IA - Nittany Lion cross country star Susanne Heyer (Sr., Leipzig, Germany) has just added another honor to her already impressive resume. Heyer finished in 14th place out of 255 runners, posting a time of 21:09 on the 6,000 meter course. The impressive finish represents the best finish by a female runner since Kathy Mills and Heather Carmichael finished in fourth and eighth places respectively in 1979. Taking the top individual honors was senior Kara Grgas-Wheeler of Colorado with a time of 20:30.5. Junior Sabrina Monro of Montana took second with a time of 20:37.8. Defending Champion Erica Palmer of Wisconsin took home third place coming in at 20:39.9. Freshman Shalane Flanagan of North Carolina and junior Lisa Aguilera of Arizona State rounded out the top five. Colorado also took top honors in the team competition with a total score of 117. Rival Brigham Young finished in second place with a score of 167. The Stanford Cardinal finished in third place with a score of 198. Boston College and Georgetown represented the eastern region with scores of 214 and 247 respectively, good enough for fourth and fifth places.
