State College, Pa., July 14, 2004 - The Penn State women's track and field team announced today the official transfer of top-level thrower Jennifer Leatherman (Yellville, Ark.) from the United States Naval Academy to the Nittany Lion program. The Nittany Lions, fresh off the school's first Big Ten title in track and field during the 2004 season, will bolster an already strong throwing team with the addition of Leatherman who will have junior eligibility.

Leatherman won the ECAC hammer title with a throw of 192-11 and finished 13th at the NCAA East Regional last year. She also won a Patriot League titles in the weight throw (60-9 1/4), discus (156-2) and was the runner-up in the shot put (46-9). Leatherman set school records in the indoor and outdoor shot put, weight throw, hammer and discus while at the Naval Academy.
