Aduba takes sixth in long jump; Earns fourth All-America title

Austin, Texas, June 11, 2004 - Penn State senior Chi-Chi Aduba (Medfield, Mass.) posted a leap of 21-0 to take sixth in the long jump and earn the fourth All-America title of her career late Thursday night at the 2004 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the University of Texas.

The 2004 Big Ten and NCAA East Regional Champion in the event, Aduba struggled for much of the day but managed to grab the last of nine qualifying positions for the finals. She used it to post her best jump of the day on her first finals attempt and move up to a sixth place finish. Aduba earned her first outdoor All-America title to go with three earned indoors in the triple and long jumps. She ends her collegiate long jumping career at Penn State as the school record holder with a mark of 21-6 posted this season.

Georgia's Hyleas Fountain won the event with a mark of 21-8 1/4.

Friday night, Aduba also advanced to the finals of the triple jump with a qualifying leap of 43-11 3/4. Aduba's mark ranks fifth among 12 qualifiers going into Saturday's final, just six inches behind the leading qualifying mark of 44-5 1/4 by Auburn's Shelly-Ann Gallimore. Aduba posted the Penn State record of 44-6 in finishing runner-up in the event at the 2004 East Regionals.

Ten-time All-American Connie Moore was due to compete in the 100-meter final at 10:10 p.m. (ET) Friday night. Moore will bring the seventh best time into the final after matching a career-best with an 11.21 in the preliminary round.

Moore will also compete Saturday night at 9:15 p.m. (ET) in the 200-meter final, an event she is among the favorites to win.
