Penn State's Nichols and Miller complete seasons short of reaching NCAA finals

Austin, Texas, June 11, 2004 - Penn State senior Chavous Nichols (Wichita, Kan.) and sophomore Dane Miller (Reading, Pa.) wrapped up their seasons short of reaching the finals in their respective events at the 2004 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by the University of Texas.

Nichols, the 2004 East Region triple jump champion, came up eight inches shy of reaching the finals of the triple jump on Friday night. An All-American in the event indoors, Nichols posted a mark of 51-2 1/2 on his first attempt of the competition and failed to improve upon it, fouling his final attempt, as he finished 14th in the competition. The top 12 marks advanced to the finals.

Miller competed in the qualifying round of the shot put late Thursday night. He posted a mark of 56-11 1/2 on his second attempt, fouling two others, and finished 24th overall.
