Penn State Men's Track and Field sends three to NCAA Outdoor Championships

State College, Pa., June 5, 2003 - Two-time Big Ten Champion Brian Derby will compete in the 400-meter hurdles at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Sacramento, Calif., June 11-14. Derby, a former All-American, will be joined by senior JT Kuretich and junior All-American Chavous Nichols in representing Penn State in the national competition.

Derby, a senior, coming of a Big Ten title in the even t a few weeks ago, enters the competition seeded seventh with a time of 49.72. He is also coming off a fourth place finish at the NCAA East Regional.

Nichols, an All-American indoors in the triple jump, will compete in that event at the NCAAs where his jump of 52-3 is ranked 21st. He finished fourth at the East Regional and fifth in Big Ten competition.

Kuretich is entered in the decathlon where is he currently ranked 13th with 7,424 points. Kuretich recently won the Big Ten decathlon title.

The meet will be hosted by the University of California at Sacramento.
