Penn State's Dougherty third in Big Ten pole vault

Madison, Wisc., May 17, 2002 - The Penn State women's track team got its first placing of the 2002 Big Ten Outdoor Track and Field Championships from sophomore Sara Dougherty in the opening day of competition on Friday. Dougherty posted a height of 12-4 in placing third in the pole vault competition. Purdue's Ebbie Metzinger won the event with a Big Ten Meet record mark of 13-1 1/2. Penn State currently stands fourth as a team in the competition with 7 points while Purdue leads with 25 1/2. Competition continues Saturday and Sunday.
