Men's Track Delivers Solid Performances at James Madison

Harrisonburg, Va.-- The Penn State men's track team made their presence felt at the James Madison Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The Lions racked up 16 ICAAAA qualifying marks and had 6 first place finishes.

In the sprints, freshman Guy Rose took first place in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14.22 seconds. The Wayne, NJ native then brought home a second place finish in the 400 meter hurdles in a time of 51.42 seconds. It was a one-two Penn State finish in the 100 meters as Ryan Olkowski (Jr., Baltimore Md.) and Greg Miller (So, Palmyra, Pa.) finished with times of 10.51 and 10.58 seconds respectively. Miller also won the 200 meters with a time of 21.41 seconds. Senior Ben Karcz (Oakdale, Pa.) took third in the 400 meters in a time of 48.03 seconds. The Penn State relay teams also came up big taking first place finishes in the 4x400 relay (3:11.93) and the 4x100 relay (40.73). Steve Walsh (Sr., Blue Bell, Pa.) and Chris McGinness (Sr., Roslyn, Pa.) also added two IC4A qualifying marks in the 1,500 meters with times of 3:46.51 and 3:46.75 respectively, giving the Lions a total of 10 qualifying marks on the track.

Junior Nick Plack (Lititz, Pa.) took first place in the high jump with a leap of 6'09"00, while Dorian Lowe (Jr., Philadelphia, Pa.) finished fourth in the hammer throw with a toss of 174'11". The remaining four IC4A qualifying bids were gobbled up in the shot put, where Matt Moyer (Fr., Glenside, Pa.) took first place with a throw of 208"09". Teammates Kyle Wintersteen (Fr., Danville, Pa.), Eric Dare (Fr, State College, Pa.), and Brian Stumpf (Fr., Pittsburgh, Pa.) took second, third, and sixth places respectively.

Next up for the Penn State men's track team is a trip to the University of Indiana to take on the best of the Big Ten next weekend at the Big Ten Championships.
