Women's Track and Field collects seven NCAA regional qualifying marks at Penn Relays

Philadelphia, Pa., May 1, 2005- The Penn State women's track and field team traveled to Philadelphia this weekend to participate in the Penn Relays, hosted by the University of Pennsylvania. The women collected seven NCAA regional qualifying bids at the meet.

The 4x100 meter relay team of sophomores Shana Cox and Kamilah Stovall Salaam, junior Sara Shoaff, and senior Brooke Robinson finished first in the ECAC division in a time of 45.91. Senior Diana Bruch finished first in the college javelin division with an NCAA regional qualifying throw of 150-10.

Penn State's sprint medley team finished third in the College division in a time of 3:50.15 while the 4x400 meter relay team was fourth with an NCAA regional qualifying time of 3:39.34. Junior Christen Clemson finished third in the women's college discus championship of America's with an NCAA regional qualifying throw of 168-04. Junior All-American Jen Leatherman finished seventh in the college discus division with an NCAA regional qualifying throw of 157-03. She also finished in the top seven in the college shot put championship of America's division by throwing an NCAA regional qualifying throw of 50-05 ?.

Leatherman also finished well in the college hammer championship division. She placed third with an NCAA regional qualifying throw of 196-01. Senior and throws captain Kate Johnston finished fourth in the hammer with an NCAA regional qualifying throw of 192-09.

Freshman Gayle Hunter finished fifth in the Olympic Development 100m hurdles division in a time of 14.21. Hunter ran against a strong field of competition, Anjanette Kirkland who ran for Nike and is the 2001 World Indoor and Outdoor gold medalist finished first with a time of 12.95.

Senior, All-American and distance captain Molly Landreth finished fifth in the 10,000 meter college championship of America's division in a time of 34:56.68. Penn State finished second in the college distance medley division in a time of 11:52.80. Senior Jenny Stevens, junior Cheryl Green and freshmen Stephanie Pezzullo and Nicki Bohnsack ran for Penn State in the distance medley relay.

The 4x1,500 meter relay championship of America's teammates Stevens, Bohnsack, Pezzullo and senior Lindsay Scottoline finished fifth in a time of 18:21.78. Junior Megan Burke finished fourth in the high jump in the college eastern division with a mark of 5-8 1/2. Sophomore Kelly Nesbit finished fifth in the college pole vault division with a mark of 11-11 3/4.
