DURHAM, N.H. - The Providence College men's and women's cross country teams opened the 2007 at the New Hampshire Dual Meet on Saturday, September 1 in Durham, N.H. Senior Ahmed Haji (West Hartford, Conn.) won the men's race with a time of 26:13. Junior Danette Doetzel (Macklin, Saskatchewan) was the top Providence runner on the women's side with a second-place finish (17:18).

The Friar men's team recorded 23 points in the dual meet to defeat both New Hampshire (42 points) and Boston College (66 points). The Friar women's team placed third with 50 points behind Boston College (32 points) and New Hampshire (47 points).

In the men's race, five Providence runners finished among the top-10, led by Haji. Sophomore Tom Webb (Barrington, R.I.) placed second with a time of 26:21. Junior Richard Yeates (Dublin, Ireland) took fifth overall with a time of 26:54. Sophomore Michael Anderson (Ajax, Ontario) and senior Chris McDermott (West Haven, Conn.) placed seventh (27:13) and eighth (27:15), respectively.

On the women's side, senior Michelle Childs (Cameron, Ontario) and sophomore Krystal Douglas (Harpswell, Maine) joined Doetzel in the top-10. Childs placed fifth with a time of 17:29, while Douglas crossed the finish line in ninth place overall with a time of 18:18.
 

 

The Friar men's and women's cross country teams return to action on September 14 at the Boston College Invitational. The event will be held at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass.
