ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The Providence College women's volleyball team was defeated in its season opener, 3-0, by Saint Louis University on Friday, August 30 at the Saint Louis University Tournament.

PC was defeated by the scores of 30-21, 30-24 and 30-15. The Friars were led by sophomore Ayana Cadres (Los Angeles, Calif.) who recorded eight kills. Senior Sandy Fanning (East Amherst, N.Y.) also had a strong match for the Friars as she registered six kills and nine digs. Senior Susan Fanning (East Amherst, N.Y.) added 20 assists in the contest.

Saint Louis' Collen Hunter had a match-high 12 kills. Beth Middendorf registered 38 assists for Saint Louis.

Providence will return to action on Saturday, August 31 at the Saint Louis University Tournament with matches against Butler and Austin Peay.
