STORRS, Conn. -- The Providence College men's and women's outdoor track teams each competed at the UConn Invitational on April 9 in Storrs, Conn.

The women's team was led by junior Fiona Crombie (Christchurch, New Zealand) who won the 3,000 steeplechase in a time of 10:51.80 and qualified for the NCAA Regionals. Graduate student Lisa Cappello (Lockport, N.Y.) won the 5,000 (17:35.44) and senior Katie Twarog (Albany, N.Y.) placed second (17:48.75). Both runners qualified for the BIG EAST Championship.

On the men's side, senior Liam Reale (Hospital, Ireland) captured the 800 meters (1:50.37) and qualified for the NCAA Regionals. Sophomore Darren Brown (Spring, Texas) placed second in the 800 in a time of 1:53.25, which qualified for the BIG EAST Championship. Freshman Max Smith (Dunedin, New Zealand) won the 1,500 (3:49.20), while sophomore Nick Weidman (Sudbury, Mass.) captured the 5,000 meters (14:44.68). Senior Pat Guidera (Clonmel, Ireland) also ran a strong race in the 5,000, placing second (15:04.20). Smith, Weidman and Guidera all qualified for the BIG EAST Championship.
