Women's Tennis Defeats Marist

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. - In women's tennis action, Providence College closed out the week with a 4-2 victory over Marist College on Sunday, September 26. With the win, PC improved to 3-1 on the season, while Marist dropped to 1-1. In singles competition, Providence posted four wins. Seniors Molly Gilbride (Topsham, Maine), Nicole Rodger (Lowell, Mass.) and Lindsey Christensen (Northboro, Mass.) recorded wins at the No. 3, 5, and 6 positions, respectively. Playing in a No. 7 match, freshman Erin Kenaga (Norwalk, Conn.) recorded the final singles win for the Friars. The No. 1 match, between sophomore Jennifer Daigle (East Greenbush, N.Y.) and Yana Tikhonko, was called a draw due to darkness. At the time of this decision, each had posted one win and Tikhonko led the third set by a score of 5-4. In doubles action, the Friars defeated the Red Foxes in all three matches. Playing at No. 1, junior Sara Bitetti (Norwell, Mass.) and Daigle posted a 9-8 win over Diana Perachio and Erin Godly. At No. 2, Gilbride and Rodger defeated Tinhonko and Megan Gureck, 9-2, and finally Lee and freshman Carly Hoffend (Pittsford, N.Y.) recorded a 9-7 victory over Courtney McGeever and Amy Albert at No. 3.
