The Providence College Friars defeated Albany, 7-0, on Wednesday, April 21 in Albany, N.Y.

In singles action, Providence's No. 1, sophomore Cheri Lapane (Reading, Mass.) defeated Courtney Michels in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0. PC's No. 2, sophomore Sara Bitetti (Norwell, Mass.) defeated Amanda Brown, 6-3, 6-1, while No. 3, junior Molly Gilbride (Topsham, Maine) defeated Lisa Fund, 6-1, 6-0. Providence's No. 4, freshman Andrea Lee (Cumberland, R.I.) won her fifth consecutive match as she downed Kerry Levis in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1. No. 5, sophomore Marissa Bigelli (Lincoln, Mass.) won her first collegiate match as she defeated Erika Van Zandt, 6-1, 6-1, while senior Trisha Pollock (York, Maine) won at the No. 6 spot by default.

In doubles action, the No. 1 team of Bitetti and Lapane downed Michels and Brown, 8-0, while the No. 2 team of Gilbride and Lee defeated Fund and Levis, 8-0. The No. 3 team of Pollock and senior Beth Bryson (West Springfield, Mass.) won the last doubles match of the day by default.

The Friars return to action on Saturday, April 24 as they take on the Wildcats of Villanova at 2:30 p.m.
