Women's Tennis Falls to Quinnipiac

The Providence College women's tennis team was defeated by Quinnipiac University, 7-0, on Saturday, March 27 in Binghamton, N.Y. In singles action freshman Jen Daigle (East Greenbush, N.Y.) was defeated by Kim Piazza, 6-0, 6-2, in the No. 1 spot, while sophomore Cheri Lapane (Reading, Mass.) was defeated at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-1, by Gabby Pasternak. Sophomore Sara Bitetti (Norwell, Mass.) was defeated by Danielle Rautenberg, 6-1, 6-2 in the third singles slot, while junior Molly Gilbride (Topsham, Maine) playing No. 4 singles lost to Tina Hoang, 7-6, 6-3. The Friars lost the last two matches of the day as junior Nicole Rodger (Lowell, Mass.) was defeated by Liz Axler, 6-1, 6-1, in the fifth spot and freshman Andrea Lee (Cumberland, R.I.) was defeated by Kat Ehle, 6-2, 6-2, in the No. 6 slot. In doubles action the Friars' No. 1 pair of Bitetti and Lapane fell to Piazza and Pasternak, 8-2, while the No. 2 team of Gilbride and Rodger were dropped by Rautenberg and Hoang, 8-0. In the final doubles match of the day Lee and Daigle were beaten by Axler and Ehle, 8-2. With the loss the Friars fell to 4-7 overall and 2-6 for the Spring season. Providence returns to action on Sunday, April 4 as they take on New Hampshire in Durham, N.H. at noon.
