Women's Tennis Falls To Seton Hall

The Providence College women's tennis team was defeated by Seton Hall, 6-1, on Friday, February 27 in Providence, R.I. The Friars lone victory was earned by freshman Andrea Lee (Cumberland, R.I.) at six singles. Lee defeated Lara Spagnuolo in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3. Fellow freshman Jen Daigle (East Greenbush, N.Y.) lost to Kim Barfuss at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0, while sophomore Cheri Lapane (Reading, Mass.) fell to Viviana Figueroa, 6-2, 6-3 in the No. 2 spot. No. 3 sophomore Sara Bitteti (Norwell, Mass.) and No. 4 junior Molly Gilbride (Topsham, Maine) were defeated, 6-2, 6-3 and 6-3, 6-0, respectively. Junior Nicole Rodger (Lowell, Mass.) fell to Veronika Gerka, 6-4, 6-0 in the No. 5 slot. In doubles action the Friars lost both matches, 8-1. Lapane and Bitteti were defeated by Barfuss and Figueroa at No. 1 doubles, while Gilbride and Rodger fell to Isaza and Zamot at No. 2. The third doubles match between Daigle and Lee and Gerka and Spagnuolo was not played. Providence returns to action on Saturday, February 28 as they host Rutgers University.
