CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Providence College softball team was defeated, 4-3, by Boston College Thursday afternoon at Shea Field. With the loss, the Friars finished the season with a 23-24 overall record, while the Eagles improved to 13-27.

The Friars took a 1-0 first inning lead when senior Rachel Bartholomew (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) hit a two-out double to drive in freshman Jenna Garcia (Morro Bay, Calif.), who led off the inning with a double. The Friars increased their lead to 3-0 in the fourth inning as they hit back-to-back home runs. Bartholomew led off with her team-leading 11th home run of the season, while freshman Christy Becker (San Diego, Calif.) followed up with her seventh homer. The Eagles pulled to within, 3-1, in the bottom half of the fourth inning, scoring an unearned run. The Eagles evened the score in the fifth inning when Jenna Macchi hit a two-run single. BC won the game in the seventh inning as Amanda Booth scored after an error.

Senior Sara Surosky (Elmira, N.Y.) pitched four and two-thirds innings, allowed three runs on five hits and struck out five batters. Sophomore Jennifer Maccio (Huntington Station, N.Y.) came in relief and pitched two innings, allowed two hits and no earned runs. Amanda Klimczak earned the win for the Eagles as she pitched two innings and allowed two hits, while striking out two batters.
