PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College softball team was defeated by Seton Hall University, 7-5 and 5-2, in a BIG EAST Conference doubleheader on Sunday, April 14th at PC's Raymond Field.

In game one, the Friars led 2-1 after two innings thanks to solo home runs from freshman Kalena Petersen (Mission Viejo, Calif.) leading off the first inning and junior Sarah Morin (Westerly, R.I.) leading off the second inning. PC added two runs in the bottom of the third inning on a walk and infield error. Freshman Jaclyn Treveloni (Ashland, Mass.) dove in freshman Jackie Karsnia (Spring, Texas) with a ground-out and Morin plated rookie catcher Ashlee Weatherford (Woodland, Calif.) with a single to put Providence up, 4-1. Seton Hall pulled to within 4-3 with two runs in the top of the fourth inning, with the first run scoring on a error and McKenzie Richards driving in Mary Carroll Smith with a single for the second run.

The Pirates came up to bat in the top of the seventh inning trailing by one run and proceeded to score four runs. D'arcy Djakalovic led off the inning by reaching on an error. She was out at secondbase when Richards' grounded into a fielder's choice. Meg Berry singled to put runners on first and second and shortstop Kim Jackson followed with a three-run home run to left-centerfield. Laura Taylor made it back-to-back when she hit her 11th homer following Jackson. The Friars managed one run in the bottom of the seventh inning, as Karsnia scored on a Cori Van Dusen (Riverside, Calif.) single but it would not be enough.

In game two, batted around in the third inning and scored all five of their runs in the inning. PC's Morin was three-for-three in the second game as the Friars fell to 10-30 overall and 1-11 in BIG EAST Conference play.

The Friars return to action on Tuesday, April 16 at Fairfield when they play a doubleheader that begins at 3:00 p.m.
