Box Score

GEORGETOWN, Del. - The Providence College softball team posted two more victories at the Bash At Beach Tournament, defeating Albany, 6-2, and Maryland-Baltimore County, 4-1, on Saturday, March 19 in Georgetown, Del. The Friars will play in the championship round of the tournament on Sunday, March 20 with an opponent yet to be determined.

The Friars improved their record to 14-4 following their 4-1 win over Maryland-Baltimore County. Sophomore pitcher Sara Surosky (Elmira, N.Y.) pitched a complete game and earned her third win of the season to lead PC. At the plate, sophomore Rachel Bartholomew (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) and junior Michelle Willette (Moorpark, Calif.) hit back-to-back home runs in the sixth inning as Providence captured its fourth consecutive win.

In the victory versus Albany, it was the Great Danes that jumped ahead 2-0 when Kelly Ogden hit a two-run home run in the first inning. However, the Friars responded with four runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a 4-2 lead. Freshman Sam Pittman (San Diego, Calif.) capped off the inning with a two-run double as juniors Elena Romero (Chula Vista, Calif.) and Willette each scored on the play.

The four runs was all that senior pitcher Nicole Bartholomew (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) would need as she allowed just one more hit after the first inning. Overall, Bartholomew gave up two hits and struck out eight batters as she posted her seventh victory over the season.
