ROCK HILL, S.C. - The Providence College softball team was defeated, 2-0, by UNC Greensboro at the Winthrop Invitational Friday afternoon in Rock Hill, S.C.

The Spartans (15-12) scored single runs in the fifth and sixth innings en route to the win. Mary Greenway, who singled to lead off the fifth inning, eventually came around to score the game's first run on an RBI groundout by Adriane Audley. UNCG added an insurance run in the sixth inning when Lyndsay Mouse scored on a past ball. On the pitcher's circle, Amber Harrell held the Friars (4-7) to just three hits as she picked up her fourth win of the season. The Friar pitching staff was strong as well. Senior Sara Surosky (Elmira, N.Y.), who started the game, pitched five innings, allowed two runs and struck out five batters. Sophomore Jennifer Maccio (Huntington Station, N.Y.) pitched one inning and struck one batter.

Seniors Katie Ross (Middleboro, Mass.) and Rachel Bartholomew (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) along with freshman Katelyn Revens (Warwick, R.I.) accounted for PC's three hits on the afternoon.
