ORLANDO, Fla. - The Providence College softball team claimed their first victory of the spring in the first game of the 2002 Rebel Games Tournament in Orlando, Florida. The Friars (1-5) defeated UNC Wilmington, 4-3, on a seven-inning, one-out single by PC freshman catcher Ashlee Weatherford (Woodland, Calif.) on Monday, March 4th.

The Friars outhit the Seahawks, 11 to eight, as PC freshmen Kalena Petersen (Mission Viejo, Calif.), Jackie Karsnia (Spring, Texas) and Nicole Bartholomew (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) each had multiple hits, with Petersen totalling three hits in four at bats.

Bartholomew earned her first collegiate victory on the mound for the Friars, pitching a complete game while allowing eight hits and just one earned run while striking out nine UNC Wilmington batters.

The Friars face Campbell University in PC's second contest of the day on Monday evening and PC faces Lehigh and Robert Morris on Tuesday, March 5 as the Rebel Games continue.
