Nine Providence College Women's Hockey Players Named To The HOCKEY EAST All-Academic Squad
June 11, 2007 Providence, R.I. - It was announced on Friday, June 8 that graduate student Jana Bugden (Corner Brook, Newfoundland), seniors Sonny Watrous (Albuquerque N.M.) and Kristin Gigliotti (Saquoit, N.Y.), junior Caitlin Malboeuf (Fairfield, Vt.), sophomores Danielle Ciarletta (Blaine Minn.), Meredith George (Westwood Mass.) Brittany Simpson (Barrie, Ont.), Mari Pehkonen (Tampere, Finland), along with freshman Brittany Nelson (Shelburne, Vt.) were named to the 2007 HOCKEY EAST All-Academic Team. In order to qualify for the team, each student athlete had to achieve a grade-point-average of at least 3.0 in each of the two academic periods in which she was actively competeing for the Friars. Gigliotti, a First-Team HOCKEY EAST All-Star selection in 2007, was selected to the HOCKEY EAST All-Academic Team for the third time in her career. For Bugden, the 2007 HOCKEY EAST Tournament MVP, and Watrous, 2007 marks the second time each has been a member of the HOCKEY EAST All-Academic team. Malboeuf, Ciarletta, George, Simpson, Pehkonen and Nelson are all making their first appearances on the HOCKEY EAST All-Academic squad. All told, the 2007 women's HOCKEY EAST All-Academic squad is comprised of 85 student athletes from Boston College, Boston University, the University of Connecticut, the University of Maine, the University of New Hampshire, Northeastern University, Providence College, and the University of Vermont.
