Providence, R.I. - It was annoounced by the Hockey East Association on Monday, January 14 that women's ice hockey player Danielle Ciarletta (Blaine, Minn.) was named the Hockey East's Defensive Player of the Week. Ciarletta helped the Friars split a series with No. 4 Mercyhurst this past weekend. It marks the second time this season, and the fourth time in her career, that Ciarletta has earned Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Ciarletta led the Friars to a 7-3 victory versus Mercyhurst on January 12, as she made 35 saves. A day later, in PC's 3-0 loss to the Lakers, Ciarletta made a season high 44 saves. On the weekend, she stopped 79 of the 84 shots she faced. In 2008, which includes two games versus Niagara and two games versus Mercyhurst, Ciarletta has stopped 119 of the 124 shots she has faced.

Ciarletta and the Friars return to conference action next weekend with two Hockey East games. On Saturday, January 19 the Friars will travel to Durham to face No. 1 New Hampshire at 2:00 p.m. at UNH's Whittemore Center. Then the Friars will host Boston University for a 2:00 p.m. game at Schneider Arena on Sunday, January 20.
