The Providence College women's ice hockey team defeated Boston College, 6-1, on Wednesday, March 10 at Kelley Rink in Chestnut Hill, Mass.

It was a milestone game for junior Rush Zimmerman (Grosse Pointe, Mich.) and Head Coach Bob Deraney as they broke the century mark for career points and wins, respectively. Zimmerman tallied two assists in the third period to reach 100 points (45 goals, 55 assists) in her career, while Head Coach Bob Deraney raised his career record to 100-56-18.

Providence gained the early advantage as junior Danielle Bourgette (Anaheim, Calif.) scored her first goal of the season on a blast from the point that beat Boston College goaltender Lisa Davis through the five hole. Sophomore Karen Thatcher (Douglas, Mass.) scored what would prove to be the game winner just under eight minutes later as she deflected a shot from junior Ashley Payton (Chesterfield, Mo.) past Davis. Boston College's Kaitlin McGrath closed out the first period as she was able to jam the puck under sophomore goaltender Jana Bugden (Corner Brook, Newfoundland) with two seconds remaining in the period.

The Friars stretched their lead as they scored four unanswered goals in the second and third periods to put the game out of reach. Senior Kelli Halcisak (Grosse Ile, Mich.) scored the lone goal in the second period, while senior Darlene Stephenson (Virden, Manitoba) scored once and freshman Sonny Watrous (Albuquerque, N.M.) tallied two goals in the third.

Providence outshot Boston College, 32-18. Bugden earned her eleventh win of the season making 17 saves, as the Friars improved to 18-13-2 overall and 13-5-1 in HOCKEY EAST, while Boston College fell to 6-21-3 overall and 1-17-1 in HOCKEY EAST.

Providence College returns to action on Saturday, March 13 when they host the Eagles at Schneider Arena at 2:00 p.m. in their regular season finale.
