The Providence College women's hockey team was defeated at Brown University, 7-3, on Wednesday, February 13 at Meehan Auditorium.
The Bears jumped out to a 3-0 lead after 10:07 of the first period. PC sophomore defenseman Kelli Halcisak (Grosse Isle, Mich.) scored at the 12:24 mark to make the score 3-1. However, Brown's Kim Insalaco scored late in the first period to give Brown a three-goal advantage.
In the second period, sophomore Darlene Stephenson (Virden, Manitoba) scored off an assist from freshman Rush Zimmerman (Grosse Pointe, Mich.) to cut the lead to 4-2. That was as close as the Friars would get as the Bears erupted for three third period goals, capped off by Kristy Zamora's second goal of the night at 11:49. Zamora finished with two goals and one assist. Halcisak added a power-play goal to complete the scoring.
Brown outshot PC, 33-12. Katie Germain made nine saves in net for the Bears, while freshman Amy Thomas (Austin, Texas) and sophomore Amy Quinlan (Baton Rouge, La.) combined to make 26 saves.
The Friars return to action this weekend as they play a home-and-home series against Connecticut. PC will play UConn on Saturday, February 16 in Storrs, Conn. The Friars return home to play the Huskies on Sunday, February 17 at PC's Schneider Arena.
