Nov. 14, 2005

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - On Monday, November 14 the National Field Hockey Coaches Association announced its selections for the 2005 Dartfish/NFHCA Division I All-Region Teams. Two members of the Providence College field hockey team were recognized as junior Lauren Sickel (Plaistow, N.H.) was named to the All-Northeast Region First Team and sophomore Abby Maguire (Southbury, Conn.) was selected to the Second Team.

Sickel earns First-Team Regional All-America honors for the second time in her career, but it marks the first time that she has been selected to the First Team. In 2004, she was a Second-Team Regional All-America selection. Sickel was tabbed as the BIG EAST's Preseason Defensive Player of the Year to start the 2005 season and went on to become an All-BIG EAST First-Team selection. As a sophomore, Sickel was an All-BIG EAST Second Team honoree. This year, Sickel netted one goal for two points and recorded two defensive saves. She also served as team captain for the Friars in just her third season with the team.

As a member of the First Team in a respective region, a student-athlete then earns consideration for All-America honors.

Maguire, a 2005 All-BIG EAST Second-Team selection, earns Regional All-America honors for the first time in her career as a member of the Second Team. Maguire led the Friars in scoring and posted single-season career highs with 22 points, nine goals and four assists. As a freshman in 2004, Maguire registered 13 points on six goals and one assist.
