The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division I Field Hockey Selection Committee announced the tournament participants for the 2001 ECAC Division I Field Hockey Championship on Wednesday, November 7.

Providence College was chosen as the fourth-seed in the four-team tournament. The Friars will face top-seed, and tournament host, Dartmouth College (13-4) on Saturday, November 10 at 11:00 a.m. at Scully-Fahey Field in Hanover, New Hampshire. Second-seed Georgetown University (10-5) will face third-seed, Drexel (10-10), in the second semifinal at 2:00 p.m. The winner of each semifinal game will advance to the championship game on Sunday, November 11 at 1:00 p.m.

Other than the BIG EAST Tournament, the Friars will make their first appearance in post-season play since 1990, when the team competed in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. In 1988, Providence College was crowned ECAC Champion. The Friars beat Princeton 1-0 in overtime, in the semifinals, and Dartmouth, 1-0, in the Championship game to take the title. PC's only other appearance in the ECAC Tournament came in 1983. The Friars were defeated by Northeastern, 5-1, in the semifinals. They bounced back in the consolation game to beat Boston College, 4-3. Providence owns a 3-1 overall record in ECAC Tournament play.

Semifinal Rounds - Saturday, November 10, 2001 Game One: #1 Dartmouth (13-4) vs. #4 Providence (11-7) -- 11:00 a.m. Game Two: #2 Georgetown (10-5) vs. #3 Drexel (10-10) -- 2:00 p.m.

Championship Game - Sunday, November 11, 2001 Winner of Game One vs. Winner of Game Two -- 1:00 p.m.
