SOMERSET, N.J. - Providence College's Lauren Sickel (Plaistow, N.H.) was honored by the BIG EAST Conference as a member of the All-BIG EAST First Team in the sport of field hockey. Sickel is one of 11 players selected to the Firs Team. The announcement was made at the annual BIG EAST Conference Field Hockey Championship banquet held on Thursday, November 3 at the Doubletree Hotel in Somerset, N.J. PC sophomore Abby Maguire (Southbury, Conn.) was selected to the All-BIG EAST Second Team. All-BIG EAST First and Second Team selections are voted on by the league's six head coaches.

Sickel, a junior captain for the Friars, was named the 2005 BIG EAST Conference Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. She tallied two points on one goal this season and registered two defensive saves. Sickel earns All-BIG EAST First-Team recognition for the first time in her career. As a sophomore in 2004, Sickel was named a STX/NFHCA Second-Team Regional All-American and Second-Team All-BIG EAST honoree.

Maguire led the Friars in scoring with 22 points on nine goals and four assists. Her nine goals and four assists marked personal single-season career highs, as she earns post-season honors for the first time in her collegiate career. She registered one game-winning goal this season as time expired in a 4-3 victory over cross-town rival Brown on October 19. Last season, Maguire notched 13 points on six goals and one assist as a freshman.
