PROVIDENCE COLLEGE (10-5, 2-1 BIG EAST): The Providence College field hockey team enters Sunday's non-conference game against Princeton University with a 10-5 overall record. The Friars have earned victories in five of their last seven games, including wins in each of the last two match-ups. PC is coming off of a 3-2 victory over 18th-ranked Syracuse, which was played on Friday, October 12 in Providence, R.I.

Six Friars have reached double figures in the points column through 15 games on the 2007 schedule led by junior Meghan Holden (Worcester, Mass.). Holden owns 18 a single-season career high of 18 points on six goals and six assists. Ten of her 18 points have been scored during Providence's last four games on four goals and two assists.

Freshman Julie Ruggieri (Barrington, R.I.) and senior Michalagh Stoddard (Norwood, Mass.) are tied for second on the squad in scoring with 15 points apiece. Ruggieri has a team-leading seven goals to go along with one assist, while Stoddard has five goals and five assists. Sophomore Nellie Poulin (Oakland, Maine) follows with 14 points on six goals and two assists. Junior Jessica Lane (South Windsor, Conn.) owns 12 points on a team-best and career-high 12 assists. Senior Abby Maguire (Southbury, Conn.) rounds out the double-digit scoring with 11 points on five goals and one assist.

Sophomore goalkeeper Rachel Chamberlain (Branford, Conn.) has played 992 minutes in goal this season and has posted a 10-5 record with three shutouts. She has made 66 saves and allowed just 18 goals for a 1.27 goals against average and a 0.786 save percentage.

 

 

After the team's meeting with Princeton on Sunday, the Friars head out of town for a three-straight road games beginning with Rutgers on Friday, October 19 at 7:30 p.m. in Piscataway, N.J. The Friars will then take on 20th-ranked Villanova on Sunday, October 21 in Villanova, Pa. The road trip ends with a meeting against 6th-ranked Connecticut in Storrs, Conn. on October 27.

PRINCETON UNIVERSITY (7-4, 4-1 Ivy League): The Princeton Tigers enter Sunday's game against Providence with a 7-4 overall record. The Tigers have won each of their last three games, including a 2-1 victory over then-No. 3 Connecticut on October 7 in Princeton, N.J. Most recently, Princeton took a 5-0 victory over Ivy League foe Brown, 5-0, on Saturday, October 13. The Tigers are 5-2 on their home field in Princeton, N.J., but just 2-2 on the road.

Christina Bortz leads the Tigers in scoring with 14 points on six goals and two assists. Holly McGarvie is second among her teammates in scoring with 11 points on five goals and one assist. Katie Kinzer (three goals, three assists) and Candice Arner (three goals, three assists) each have nine points on the year.

In goal, Cynthia Wray has clocked 665 minutes of action and has posted a 6-4 record, which includes three shut-out victories. She has allowed 18 goals and has made 34 saves for a 1.89 goals against average and a 0.654 save percentage. Jennifer King has played 105 minutes in the cage and has a 1-0 record. She has made eight saves and allowed just one goal for a 0.67 goals against average and a 0.889 save percentage.
