PROVIDENCE COLLEGE (1-2, 0-0 BIG EAST): The Providence College field hockey team hosts Holy Cross on Wednesday, September 7 at the Friar Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex in Providence, R.I. It marks the first-ever game played under the lights at the facility, and fourth game overall. Prior to the match-up, there will be a brief ceremony to officially celebrate the opening of the complex. The Friars enter Wednesday's game with a 1-2 overall record. In PC's last outting, the team was defeated by regional power Northeastern, 5-2. Holy Cross comes to Providence with a 1-1 overall mark this season. The Crusaders opened the year with a 5-1 victory against Siena on August 30, and fell to Quinnipiac, 2-1, on September 4.

Through three games the Friars are led offensively by sophomore Abby Maguire (Southbury, Conn.). Maguire owns nine points on four goals and one assist. Junior Melissa McGow (Branford, Conn.) is second on the team in scoring with five points on two goals and one assist. Freshman Stephanie Scavelli (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) has played the majority of the minutes in goal this season. She currently has a 2.93 goals against average and a 0.724 save percentage. In PC's match-up against Northeastern, Scavelli made a season-high 17 saves. She picked up her first collegiate victory in the cage on September 4 against Vermont (8-1), with two saves. Maguire has been named to the BIG EAST Conference Honor Roll each of the last two weeks, while Scavelli made her first appearance on the honor roll on Monday, September 5.

Fourth-year Head Coach Diane Madl has guided the Friars to a 2-1 record versus Holy Cross since beginning her tenure at PC in 2002. The Friars have registered a 22-5 record against the Crusaders in the all-time series.

HOLY CROSS (1-1, 0-0 Patriot League): Holy Cross comes to Providence with a 1-1 overall mark this season. The Crusaders opened the season with a 5-1 victory against Siena on August 30, and fell to Quinnipiac, 2-1, on September 4.

Holy Cross is led offensively by Laura Cohen and Tara Welch, who each have six points this season. Cohen has recorded a team-best three goals, while Welch has recorded two goals and two assists. Sony Kuhn has been the Crusader's primary goalkeeper this season. Through two games she has a 1.50 goals against average and a 0.727 save percentage.

In 2004, Holy Cross defeated Providence, 4-1, on September 8 in Worcester, Mass.
