PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College field hockey team defeated Brown, 5-1, in a non-conference game on Warner Roof in Providence, R.I. Junior Kati Lary (Canaan, N.H.) and sophomore Lauren Sickel (Plaistow, N.H.) scored two goals each for Providence in the victory. The Friars improve to 9-9 overall on the season. PC's nine wins are the most the program has earned since 2001, when the team finished the season 11-8.

Providence jumped out to a 2-0 lead within the first 10 minutes of action as Lary connected on two-consecutive unassisted goals. Her first tally came at the 3:47 mark, and she netted her second goal 9:02 into the game. Freshman Abby Maguire (Southbury, Conn.) gave the Friars a 3-0 advantage going into halftime on her fifth goal of the season with just 17-seconds remaining in the first half.
 

 

In the second half, Providence increased its lead to 5-0 as Sickel netted goals at 45:32 and 52:53. Her first goal of the afternoon was assisted by sophomore Melissa McGow (Branford, Conn.). McGow took the initial shot on goal and Sickel deflected the ball past Brown's goalkeeper. Sickel's second goal was a direct shot off a penalty corner, assisted by Lary and McGow.

Brown got on the score board with 3:03 remaining in the game as Evan O'Connell scored her first goal of the season off an assist from Kristen Vincent.

Providence outshot Brown, 21-12, and held the advantage on penalty corners, 12-3. Senior goalkeeper Meredith Jones (Lake Forest, Ill.) made seven saves in goal for the Friars, who have won two-straight games. Kristen Hodavance made 12 saves in goal for Brown.

Providence College (9-9, 0-3 BIG EAST) returns to action on Sunday, October 24 against BIG EAST Conference foe Villanova. The game is scheduled to be played at Trinity College in Hartford, Conn. At 1:00 p.m.
