Box Score

HANOVER, N.H. - The Providence College field hockey team fell to Dartmouth, 2-1, in penalty strokes on Sunday, September 18 in Hanover, N.H. After two, scoreless 15-minute overtime sessions, Dartmouth connected on three-of-five stroke attempts to win the game. Providence converted it's first attempt in the stroke-off, but failed on their next three.

Junior Emily Ewens (Vancouver, B.C.) gave PC a 1-0 lead with 3:27 remaining in the first half on an unassisted goal. It marked Ewens' fourth goal of the season. Dartmouth tied the game, 1-1, with 4:56 remaining in regulation to force overtime. The Friars outshot Dartmouth, 5-4, during the two overtimes, including a 4-2 edge on shots in the second overtime, but neither team could find the back of the cage.

With the score tied, 1-1, the teams went to penalty strokes. Freshman Jessica Lane (South Windsor, Conn.) converted Providence's first attempt, but proved to be the only goal for PC in the stroke-off. Dartmouth missed its first stroke attempt, but connected on three-straight stokes to take the win.

Freshman goalkeeper Stephanie Scavelli (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) made five saves for PC in the loss. Lauren Balukjian registered eight saves to solidify the victory in goal for Dartmouth.

Providence (2-6) returns to action on Wednesday, September 21 against 16th-ranked Boston College. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. at the Friar Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex in Providence, R.I.
