Final Stats

WORCESTER, MASS. - The Providence College field hockey team remained unbeaten with a 1-0 victory over Holy Cross on Wednesday, September 6 in Worcester, Mass. Senior forward Emily Ewens (Vancouver, B.C.) scored the Friar's lone goal 10:05 into the game, and it proved to be the only tally PC would need to earn its fourth-straight win to start the season (4-0). Ewens' goal was assisted by junior Abby Maguire (Southbury, Conn.).

Freshman goalkeeper Rachel Chamberlain (Branford, Conn.) recorded the shut-out victory with three saves. It marks the second shut-out win of the season for the Friars, and the second of Chamberlain's young collegiate career. Erin Singleton made four saves in goal for Holy Cross, who falls to 2-2 on the season.

Providence outshot the Crusaders, 9-9, including a 5-3 advantage in shots on goal. PC also held a 5-2 edge in penalty corners.

Providence is off to its best start (4-0) since 1997, when the Friars began that campaign with eight-straight wins. PC is now 4-1 all-time versus Holy Cross under the direction of fifth-year Head Coach Diane Madl. The Friars return to action on Friday, September 8 against 18th-ranked Northeastern. The game is scheduled to be played at 2:00 p.m. in Boston, Mass. at Sweeney Field on the campus of Wentworth Institute of Technology.
