Women's Hoops Gets Critical Win At St. John's, 93-77

QUEENS, N.Y. - The Providence College women's basketball ended a seven-game winless streak with a 93-77 victory over St. John's in BIG EAST play on February 10 at Carnesecca Arena in Queens, N.Y. Sophomore Chelsea Marandola (Johnston, R.I.) connected on a game-high 19 points to lead Providence. Sophomore Catherine Bove (Cincinnati, Ohio) notched a double-double with 17 points and a career-high 14 rebounds. Fourteen of her 17 points came in the Friar's decisive second half. Providence rallied from an 18-point first half deficit and cut the lead to two points (44-42) at halftime. In the second half, Providence earned its first lead of the game (59-58) with 12:20 remaining on the clock and never looked back. The Friars outscored the Red Storm, 51-33, in the second half to earn the decisive victory. Freshman Brittany Dorsey (Detroit, Mich.) added 13 points for PC and freshman Kendria Holmes (Charlotte, N.C.) added 10. Kia Wright netted 19 points to lead St. John's. Monique McLean added a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Joy McCorvey and Angel Tate each scored 13 points. Providence College (13-11, 3-8 BIG EAST) will return to action on Tuesday, February 13 against BIG EAST foe South Florida at 7:00 p.m. The game will be played at Alumni Hall/Mullaney Gymnasium in Providence, R.I.
