Final Stats

MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The Providence College women's basketball team fell to Marquette, 72-43, in its BIG EAST Conference opener in Milwaukee, Wis. on January 5. Freshman Trinity Hull (Cranston, R.I.) led all scorers with a career-high 25 points on 9-of-16 shooting from the field, including a 3-of-5 performance from beyond the three-point arc. Hull also knocked down 4-of-4 free throws on the day and grabbed four rebounds.

The Friars made their first shot of the game to take a 2-0 lead in the first 37 seconds of play, but missed 21 of their next 23 attempts from the floor as Marquette took a commanding 28-6 lead at the 7:19 mark of the first half. Sophomore Kendria Holmes (Charlotte, N.C.) finally got Providence back on the scoreboard after 10 scoreless minutes with a short jumper from left wing with 6:48 left to make the score 28-8. Marquette closed out the half with a 15-7 scoring advantage. Hull scored nine of the Friars' 15 points in the half on 4-of-7 shooting. Angel Robinson led Marquette in the first 20 minutes with 10 points.

In the second half, Marquette outscored the Friars by just one point (29-28), en route to its 72-43 win. The Golden Eagles dominated the boards, 51-34, and scored 34 of their 72 points in the paint.

Angel Robinson led Marquette with 16 points, followed by 12 points from Krystal Ellis. Kelly Lam grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds and chipped in nine points.

Providence College (10-3, 0-0 BIG EAST) returns to action on Saturday, January 12 against DePaul 15th-ranked DePaul. The game will be played at Alumni Hall/Mullaney Gymanasium in Providence, R.I.
