TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Providence College men's cross country competed at Pre Nationals on Saturday, October 13 in Terre Haute, Ind. The event was hosted by Indiana State University. The Friars posted an eighth-place finish among a field of 40 teams participating in the White Team Race with 301 points. Senior Max Smith (Dunedin, New Zealand) was PC's top individual finisher on the men's side with a sixth-place finish in a time of 23:22. Senior Ahmed Haji (West Hartford, Conn.) finished 60th overall with a time of 24:10. Sophomore Hayden McClaren (Christchurch, New Zealand) was the third Friar runner to cross the finish line in 72nd place with a time of 24:17. Freshman David McCarthy (Waterford, Ireland) and sophomore Richard Yeates (Dublin, Ireland) also scored for Providence. McCarthy placed 76th in a time of 24:18, while Yeates took 87th in a time of 24:24. The University of Texas El Paso (UTEP) won the men's team title in the White Team Race with 129 points. Josh McDougal of Liberty won the individual title in the White Team Race with a time of 22:57. The Friars return to action on Saturday, October 27 at the BIG EAST Championship. Providence owns a league leading 15 BIG EAST Cross Country titles, and will look to repeat as champs since earning the team title in 2006 at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass. The 2007 BIG EAST Championship will be held in Louisville, Ky.
