Swimming & Diving Hosts Maine

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College swimming and diving teams hosted the University of Maine this afternoon at PC's Taylor Natatorium. The men's team won seven events and defeated the Black Bears, 141-139. The women's team won six events but lost, 173-127. Senior Seth Brockman (Kenner, La.) won the 50-meter freestyle with a time of 25.84, 0.09 seconds ahead of teammate Tom McLoughlin (Leonardo, N.J.). Senior Frank LaMonaca (Cheshire, Conn.) won the 100-meter freestyle with a time of 55.53 and the 200-meter freestyle with a time of 2:02.17. Classmate Mike Vezzoli (Old Lyme, Conn.) won the 100-meter backstroke with a time of 1:04.81. Freshman Nick Trilla (Belmont, Mass.) won the 800-meter freestyle with a time of 9:31.88 while classmate Ryan Clark (Taunton, Mass.) won the 200-meter backstroke with a time of 2:20.20. Trilla also won the 200-meter butterfly with a time of 2:35.01. On the women's side, freshman Blair Flynn (Middleton, R.I.) won the 50-meter freestyle with a time of 28.36, a mere 0.04 seconds ahead of Maine's Lauren Viles. Flynn also placed second in the 100-meter backstroke with a time of 1:09.86. Junior Annie Nemeth (Pittsburgh, Pa.) won the 100-meter breaststroke with a time of 1:17.11. She also won the 200-meter breaststroke with a time of 2:44.44. Classmate Katelyn Flynn (Sinking Spring, Pa.) won the 100-meter butterfly with a time of 1:07.16 as well as the 200-meter butterfly with a time of 2:24.85. The Friars 200-meter freestyle relay team comprised of freshman Meghan Glynn (North Easton, Mass.), senior Lori Brezinsky (Bethlehem, Pa.), junior Emily Corcoran (Haverhill, Mass.) and freshman Lauren Sepe (Warwick, R.I.) also posted a first-place finish with a time of 2:00.13.
The Providence College women's swimming and diving team returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 21 as they host Sacred Heart at 11:00 a.m. The men return to action on Jan. 28th as they host New Hampshire at 11:00 a.m. - www.friars.com -
