Men's Soccer Standout Ryan Maduro Named To NSCAA/Adidas All-America First Team
Dec. 2, 2006 PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) announced on Friday, December 1 that Providence College junior midfielder Ryan Maduro (Bristol, R.I.) was one of 12 players to be named to the All-America First Team. It marks the second time in the 39-year history of the PC soccer program that a men's soccer player garnered First Team All-America accolades. In all, Maduro is the third Friar all-time to be named All-American. The last time a Friar earned All-America honors was in 1988 when Seamus Purcell was named to the Third Team. Purcell also became the first PC player to be named to the All-America First Team in 1987. Martin Hayes was the first Friar to receive All-America accolades when he was named to the Second Team in 1983 and the Third Team in 1984. Maduro, who also became the first PC player to be named to the All-BIG EAST First Team on November 2 and garnered NSCAA All-Northeast Region First Team honors on November 29, was instrumental in leading the Friars to their best record (13-7) since 1984 and reach BIG EAST Championship Semifinals for the third time in the last four seasons. In addition, the Friars made school history when they earned their second consecutive NCAA Tournament berth for the first time ever. PC also set a school record with seven BIG EAST Conference wins. In 20 matches, Maduro recorded three goals and four assists for 10 points, which ranked fourth on the team.
